Decorative Ceiling Tiles
Decorative Ceiling Tiles are affordable, easy to install and offer an
instant transformation to any space.
Architects, designers, businesses and the savvy home owner are turning to
Decorative Ceiling Tiles to completely transform ceilings and walls at a
very low cost.
There are various types of ceiling tiles available, the most popular
choice being fake tin ceiling tiles, affording a step back in time look,
taking inspiration from the original ceiling tiles of the Victorian era. Aluminium
ceiling tiles, which are often pressed with a geometric design and offer a
modern twist. Polystyrene/Styrofoam ceiling tiles, are available in all
sorts of designs, but their main advantage is weight. (Polystyrene is very
lightweight.) And finally
faux leather ceiling tiles! They offer a look of
opulence and are very unique.
Traditionally, ceiling tiles were just that. A tile that was nailed or
glued to an existing ceiling or battens. Not anymore more.
Designers are using ceiling tiles for covering walls, whilst
photographers are using them for quick, easy, lightweight and very
affordable photography backdrops. Restaurant owners, clubs, bars and
commercial building owners are transforming their interiors with Decorative
Ceiling Tiles. Homeowners are getting in on the act too, leading to the
popularity surge for Faux tin backsplash tiles.
Ceiling tiles are available in hundreds of designs and can be purchased
finished or can be finished on site. The benefit of finished tiles, is that
they can be installed upon delivery as they are coloured or aged in the
factory. However if you want a real bespoke colour solution, finishing on
site is the option best suited to you.
A number of questions are repeatedly asked about ceiling tiles, i will
cover the top 4 below.
Are Decorative Ceiling Tiles a fire hazard?
The simple answer is no! Ceiling tiles are made from fire retardant
materials including polystyrene/Styrofoam tiles. Note – you should NEVER use
solvent based paints on polystyrene/Styrofoam ceiling tiles, this renders
the fire retardant treatment useless and could then present a significant
fire hazard.
Do ceiling tiles give any extra insulation?
Not of any great significance. For the main part, a ceiling tile is a
very thin piece of material. Metal, tin, aluminium tiles offer little if any
insulation value, whereas polystyrene will afford some. Faux leather ceiling
tiles offer the best insulation properties. But don’t forget that ceiling
tiles are decorative and not for additional insulation.
Do ceiling tiles have any acoustic value?
Again ceiling tiles are for decorative purposes and not designed for
anything else. Adding ceiling tiles over an existing ceiling will give some
acoustic value but you choice of tile will have different effects. For
example a faux leather tile will absorb more noise than a tin ceiling tile.
Are ceiling tiles difficult to install?
Again, a simple answer. No!
No special tools are required to fit ceiling tiles, nor do you need any
specialist equipment. At its most basic, your tool kit will contain the
following.
A tape to measure, a marker pen, some string or a chalk line, some
scissors and something to apply your adhesive with. (An old paint scraper is
ideal) and a set of steps for ceiling installations.

Depending on what style of home you are working in your choice of ceiling panels will vary. You can choose to go with a tin ceiling panel that can be suspended from the ceiling such as a typical acoustical panel or even a fiberglass one that is adhered straight to the surface of the ceiling. No matter what type of ceiling panels you pick you will be able to save a lot of cash by installing them yourself.

Remodeling your home is a tough task but is worth the time and money put into the project once you see your home's new found beauty. If you are looking for a quick make over in one room, you may want to consider just adding a coat of paint and some new ceiling tiles. This can prove to be an inexpensive way to change the feel of a room without putting more than a day's time worth of work into the project, and will save you a pretty penny. If the room you are considering upgrading seems a bit dark for you, try switching the colors to a lighter, brighter and more radiant shade. This will not only cheer up the feel of the space, but also enlarge the appearance of the room.
